Nhyira FM host Ohemaa Benewaa celebrates birthday with widows outreach, launches Women’s Wave Empowerment initiative

Host of the flagship advocacy programme Obra on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM, Ohemaa Benewaa, popularly known as Prophetess Ohemaa Be, marked her birthday with a charity outreach event dubbed The Threshold at Unity Church International.

The event brought together traditional authorities, Christian leaders, and personalities from the media and music industries to celebrate leadership, empowerment, growth and social impact.

Held under the theme inspired by Psalm 84:10 — “I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked” — the gathering combined moments of worship, prayer, thanksgiving and reflection.

Gospel musicians including Elder Mireku, Gifty Donkor, Royal Prophet Nana Baffour and Osuani Oteng led worship sessions during the programme.

As part of the outreach, more than 200 clothing items and assorted food supplies were distributed to widows to provide relief and reinforce the event’s message of compassion and service.

Speaking at the event, Ohemaa Benewaa expressed gratitude to God for His protection and blessings over her life, explaining that the outreach was her way of giving thanks while extending support to vulnerable people in society.

“I always attribute my progress to God’s grace, and giving thanks should be a constant practice. Having lived among widows, I understand their circumstances and often support them. This year, I chose a different approach because putting a smile on their faces brings blessings,” she said.

She also encouraged well-to-do individuals to use personal celebrations such as birthdays, Christmas and other milestones as opportunities to support widows, orphans and underprivileged members of society.

“If you can help even one widow or orphan with something small that you have, please do it. By doing so, you are doing it for God. Putting yourself in their position will make it easier to understand the pain and hardship they endure,” she added.

During the programme, Ohemaa Benewaa also launched Women’s Wave Empowerment, a new initiative aimed at creating open conversations around social and relationship issues affecting women.

According to her, the platform will help equip women — both married and unmarried — with the knowledge, confidence and practical tools needed to make informed life decisions.

She further urged Ghanaian women to pursue financial and personal independence rather than depending entirely on their spouses for survival. For young women preparing for marriage or relationships, she advised patience and careful decision-making to avoid future regrets.

Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed appreciation to Ohemaa Benewaa for her generosity and support, offering prayers for continued blessings upon her life and ministry.
