The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region has remanded six persons into police custody over alleged firearms and ammunition-related offences.
The order was issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, by the presiding judge, His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah.
The accused persons are Nana Kissi Amoah, also known as Kofi Moses, a 55-year-old chief of Seniagya in the Sekyere East District; Yussif Sumaila, a 33-year-old driver; Alim Osman, a 33-year-old engineer; Alhassan Ishak, a 28-year-old driver; Mohammed Rashid, a 23-year-old mechanic; Rashid Sumaila, a 21-year-old shoemaker; Ali Ahmed, a 28-year-old blacksmith; and Konadu Sandra, a 22-year-old shop attendant. Another suspect, Nana Agyarko Mawereh, is currently on the run.
The accused persons are said to be residents of Effiduase, Aboabo and Sawaba.
Presenting the facts before the court, Chief Inspector Owusu Kobi Moses stated that the complainants are officers from the Effiduase District Police Command patrol team led by Chief Inspector Richard Twum.
According to the prosecution, there has been longstanding tension between Nana Kissi Amoah and the queen mother of Seniagya, Nana Ama Agyekumwah Okuafo. The matter was reportedly investigated by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command, with a report later forwarded to Police Headquarters in Accra.
The prosecution told the court that on May 14, 2026, Nana Kissi Amoah was preparing to attend a funeral at Seniagya and allegedly travelled to Aboabo and Sawaba in Kumasi to recruit the accused persons to escort him to the event.
Court documents indicated that the suspects were travelling in an unregistered black Hyundai Elantra driven by Nana Kissi Amoah when they were intercepted by a police patrol team during a stop-and-search operation after Asokore.
A search conducted in the vehicle allegedly uncovered an Adler Pump Action gun bearing serial number ASAS-12237-24 loaded with four BB cartridges, a locally manufactured pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition, three machetes and several talismans.
Police said the suspects were arrested, but Yussif Sumaila and Mohammed Rashid allegedly escaped while being transported to the police station.
The prosecution further stated that police later received intelligence around 4:00 p.m. the same day that the two escapees were attempting to retrieve another Adler Pump Action gun, which officers subsequently recovered.
Counsel for the accused persons, Esq. Bening Simpson, informed the court that Nana Kissi Amoah was unwell and therefore unable to appear before the court. He appealed to the court to excuse his absence, but the judge directed counsel to present a medical report at the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the court granted bail to Konadu Sandra in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties on humanitarian grounds.
The remaining six accused persons were remanded into police custody, while the case was adjourned to Thursday, May 21, 2026, for their pleas to be taken.
