Sports Minister Kofi Adams Urges Queiroz to Unlock Black Stars’ Full Potential

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has urged new Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to maximise the potential of Ghana’s squad as the team builds up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz, appointed in April to replace Otto Addo, has been tasked with converting the team’s individual talent into consistent results after a difficult run of form.

The Black Stars are currently on a four-match losing streak, despite several players continuing to impress at club level across Europe.

Speaking to SoccerChat, Adams questioned why some players have struggled to replicate their club performances when they join the national team.

“Why would we have Antoine Semenyo in our team, and when he goes to his club side he performs very well, but when he comes to the national team, he’s not able to play effectively?” he asked.

“Kudus plays well for his club but at the national team, he sometimes struggles to have that kind of flair. So the new coach has work to do to make these talents achieve results.”

Mohammed Kudus has contributed nine goals in all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur before an injury ruled him out of action since January, while Antoine Semenyo has scored 20 goals and provided six assists across competitions this season.

Queiroz has already made it clear that only “deserving players” will earn national team call-ups and is expected to announce his final squad for the expanded 48-team World Cup by June 1.

Ghana will continue their preparations with friendly matches against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama as they aim to reach the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since their historic 2010 run in South Africa.
