Traders Warn of Collapse in Earthenware Business in Tanoso Amid Modern Appliance Boom

Traders and pottery sellers in Tanoso say the growing use of modern household appliances, particularly blenders and other kitchen equipment, is steadily reducing demand for traditional earthenware products such as Ayewa and Kula.

According to the traders, these locally made clay products were once widely used for cooking, food storage and other household needs, providing jobs and sustaining many local artisans. However, shifting lifestyles and a growing preference for modern alternatives have led to a noticeable decline in sales.

Some of the sellers are now warning that the pottery trade could struggle to survive if the trend continues, raising concerns about lost income and the gradual fading of a long-standing cultural craft.

They are therefore calling for increased public awareness and support for local products, as well as initiatives that encourage younger people to take an interest in preserving the pottery industry.
